Avobar

This time last year I did a compilation of The ‘Top 5 Chocolate Pops Ups of 2016’ in London.  To think there were so many chocolate pop ups that I had to create a top 5.  So it’s refreshing to see that one of the pop ups this year is actually very healthy, a pop up dedicated to avocados!

Whilst the London brunch scene is all for Avo Toast, Avobar set out to show just how versatile the fruit is by creating a whole menu where the chief ingredient is the avocado, from salads, smoothies to even desserts.  That’s right desserts.  The creamy texture and healthy fats of the avocado means you can easily substitute it for butter when baking and using the right amount means it won’t turn out green.

My friend and I went for Sunday brunch.  The menu was simple enough, yet simultaneously with all the different variations of avo dishes it became quite quickly, difficult to decide what we wanted.  In the end we ordered the Avo Toast with herbed ricotta and avo berry smoothie, also the Avobar Cobb Salad with shredded baby gem lettuce, house grilled corn, cherry tomatoes, queso fresco, soft boiled egg, juicy prawns and of course avocado beautifully shaped like a rose.

The café itself was simple with wooden canteen style small tables and chairs and lots of plants scattered around to support the ethos of healthy and natural living.  The service was fast and food was enjoyable and beautifully presented.  Next time I’d go for lunch to try the Avo bun burger with red lentil and sweet potato patty followed by dessert of the avo choc brownie which both looked really appealing.
