Naked Dough

The best part of baking at home when I was young, was being allowed to lick the bowl of chocolate ganache or the whisk with freshly whipped cream and let’s not forget the scoops of cookie dough!  That’s until I found out you really shouldn’t be eating it raw.  *Sigh* The tastiest things in life are always bad for you!

So I envied the kids on American TV who ate Cookie dough straight from shop bought packets like an everyday snack or sweet treat.  How come they get all the good stuff and if it’s so safe to eat why are we missing out?

A similar thought crossed the minds of Jen and Hannah, the chefs behind Naked Dough when they caught on to the American craze and brought it to the Brits in one little cute and colourful Pop Up shop in Old Street.

With a straight forward menu, you just order 2 scoops of cookie dough in a tub or a cone for £3.60 or a milkshake for £4.00  The flavours come in fun choices like ‘Unicorn Food’ cookie dough with marshmallows and sprinkles, ‘Poo Emojis’ dough with chocolate chips ‘Honestly, Ed Sheeran’ dough with salted caramel and honeycomb, ‘Nutting Better’ crunchy peanut butter, ‘Mud Bath’ chocolate dough & chocolate chips and ‘Hazel’s Nuts’ Nutella & Kinder Bueno.

Now if you’re still worried about eating raw dough then rest assured it is perfectly safe and edible.  By omitting the raw ingredients like eggs and using heat treated flour instead, there’s no fear of  food-born illness like salmonella.    However if you’re not concerned about the raw factor but just want to make a freshly batch of cookies using their finest flavours then be warned, the dough because of the way it’s made won’t really produce delicious chunky and chewy cookies, you will get some nice biscuits out of it though.

As a Pop Up food blogger it was only obvious I would check this place out and I owed it to my inner child to try this American style snack.  However, I did feel it was really sweet, even for my sweet tooth.  The dough initially lasts a few hours out of the fridge and can then be stored for a maximum of 3 weeks, so I took the rest back to see what my tasters at home thought and the verdict was the same; it was a bit too sugary.

The pop up which was only meant to be on for 6 weeks has now extended their shop at Old Street until the end of 2017! So it appears most of you can handle the sugar rush.  If you want to go have a look, check out their website: Naked Dough
